The last weekend in Hungaroring in Hungary took place this year’s first Central European FIA CEZ Championship. In the absence of a European championship, the FIA CEZ series is the ultimate venture of the Central European region, which also corresponds to the quality and composition of the starting field, after which the Mičánek Motorsport team in Brno returned after a five-year break.
Compared to the 2010 season, when the name of the Mičánek Motorsport team last appeared, the fans saw two major changes. The first was the change of racing technique when Porsche replaced two Lamborghini Gallard cups, and the second change was a generational replacement for the team manager. While in 2010, the team of senior rider Jiří Mičánek was at the head of the team, so now is his son Jiří Mičánek jr.
“The current form of our team began to form last year, when we successfully started at the Carbnia Cup and the Slovak Circuit Cup. For this season we have decided to move our team ambitions up one level and I am glad that the Hungarian races have shown that the timing was absolutely right, “said Jiří Mičánek jr.
“The drivers at all races have clearly shown that they are well prepared for the season and that they will have to count on us. Jožka Záruba, with whom we have had a two-year run in the Northern European Cup, has managed to challenge the GT3 with much more powerful GT3 cars with a cup, which is hardly visible. We dare not only the cups from all the races we have entered, but also valuable points, “adds Jiří Mičánek.
“Last year, I did not sit in a race car for some testing, so I was looking forward to Hungary. I did not know how I would be compared with the competition, but the initial training suggested that it would be good. Finally, I managed to win both sprints, and with Broken Forman and Sunday endurance, I enjoyed all three races, so I can not but be happy, “said Záruba at the departure of Hungaroring.
His first experience with the Formula One Grand Prix calendar was left by Jiří Stránský, who was behind the wheel of the second team car.
“This weekend presented me with a little step to the unknown. After last year’s start in Brno, I had a bit of a clue to what I was going to do, but I still approached all the races with due respect. I take second and fourth place as a great entry into the season and above all as a promise for next races. A great experience for me was the Endurance race, where we and Tomáš Mičánek were able to win silver when we did not just get to our team colleagues Jožko Záruba and Broňka Formánka. I would like to thank all the members of our team. It was an amazing concert during which everything went without a single snap, “says Jiří Stránský with a smile.
The Central Europe Zone Championship will continue in less than a month in Austria on Red Bull Ring, where the riders will head for the weekend of the 18th-20th. May.
